The Opportunity

We're recruiting a Senior Process Engineer on a long-term contract basis to work on allocated engineering design projects and studies for major onshore gas processing facilities. This is a role for an experienced engineer capable of performing complex technical work with limited supervision, working across the full project lifecycle from FEED through to EPC.

You'll execute design work and represent Process Engineering at client meetings and with vendors. You'll be part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team, ensuring Process Engineering requirements integrate seamlessly into the overall engineering design. This is genuine technical work for someone who wants to stay hands-on and deliver complex engineering solutions.

What You'll Be Doing

Design & Technical Delivery

  • Perform own design work on complex projects with limited supervision
  • Develop process design basis, scope of work, heat and material balances
  • Produce process flow diagrams, P&IDs and process design philosophies
  • Size and specify process requirements for unit operations, major equipment, utilities, equipment packages and piping systems

Technical Expertise

  • Conduct hazard studies (HAZID/HAZOP) and functional safety management (SIL classification, LOPA)
  • Carry out relief and blowdown calculations to company and industry standards
  • Manage technical risk and commercial considerations throughout project delivery
  • Develop and deliver process simulations

Stakeholder & Team Engagement

  • Represent Process Engineering in client meetings, vendor discussions and third-party negotiations
  • Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Ensure integration of Process Engineering design requirements into overall engineering design
  • Understand and follow discipline programme activities, deliverables, interdependencies and man-hour budgets

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure personal compliance with company policy, relevant legislation, and Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
  • Work safely and responsibly with all colleagues, clients and subcontractors

  • Technical competency in:
    • Process simulation and design basis development
    • Heat and material balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs
    • Equipment sizing and specification (unit operations, major equipment, utility systems, piping and instrumentation)
    • Hazard studies (HAZID/HAZOP), functional safety (SIL classification, LOPA)
    • Relief and blowdown calculations to company and industry standards
    • Technical risk management and commercial awareness

Essential Personal Qualities

  • Proactive and self-motivated with a solutions-biased approach
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent technical writing ability
  • Strong IT proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel)

Beneficial

  • Full project lifecycle experience including FEED/EPC delivery
  • Background in engineering consultancy or contracting environments
  • Experience in other relevant sectors (power, petrochemical, etc.)

The Role in Practice

You'll be engaged on a long-term contract basis working from the Aberdeen office with flexible attendance by mutual agreement. Travel to client sites as required for project delivery.

You'll work with limited supervision on technically challenging work, supported by senior engineers and the discipline technical team. This role suits someone who wants to stay technical, take ownership of complex design work, and develop expertise on significant infrastructure projects.

Why This Role

We're recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering consultancy delivering major onshore gas processing projects.
