Project Engineering Manager – Major Infrastructure Projects (Contract)

Location: Manchester (3 days on-site minimum)
Duration: 6months+
Outside IR35 | 40 hours per week 

We are supporting a leading consultancy in their search for an experienced Project Engineering Manager to join a major design delivery programme across nuclear, decommissioning, water, and transport infrastructure.

This is a contract-only opportunity, offering the chance to lead engineering teams on highly regulated, complex schemes within one of the UK’s most respected multi-sector consultancies.


The Role

As a Project Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the delivery of multidisciplinary engineering design from concept to detailed design stages. Your focus will be on technical compliance, stakeholder engagement, and assurance across large-scale infrastructure projects—particularly within process and high-hazard environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-discipline engineering delivery across project lifecycle stages

  • Ensure full understanding of design scope, budget, programme and risk

  • Manage design interfaces across internal teams and supply chain

  • Provide commercial challenge to protect scope and control change

  • Coordinate engineering governance, safety and compliance processes

  • Report to senior leadership on engineering delivery performance

  • Support pre-construction activities, tenders and work-winning efforts

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvement initiatives


What You’ll Bring

  • Extensive experience leading design delivery on major infrastructure contracts

  • Knowledge of UK technical/regulatory standards and project controls (cost, risk, schedule)

  • Strong client-facing, leadership and coordination skills

  • Familiarity with civil/structural works and regulated environments (nuclear, chemical, water)

  • Process safety and quality-driven mindset

  • Ability to work a minimum of 3 days/week on-site in Manchester

  • Willingness to travel as required to client and partner locations


Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering (essential)

  • SC clearance eligibility (essential)

  • Chartered Engineer (desirable)

  • APM qualification (desirable)
