Job Title: Senior EC&I Engineer
Location: Reading
Contract Type: Contract (Outside of IR35 – Pending Determination)
Security Clearance: Active SC clearance required

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to support operations at the Burghfield site. This role involves delivering robust EC&I design and engineering documentation in a highly regulated environment and supporting key infrastructure projects critical to national operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and produce EC&I design documentation, including:

    • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)

    • Block Cable Diagrams (BCDs)

    • Cable schedules and layout drawings

  • Prepare and review Design Acceptance Reports (DARs) to ensure compliance with technical standards and client requirements.

  • Ensure all designs conform to British and European standards, including functional safety standards (BSEN 61508 & 61511).

  • Produce and maintain Lifetime Quality Records (LTQRs) and technical files in line with established quality management procedures.

  • Contribute to the development of safety and control system documentation, such as:

    • Functional Design Specifications (FDS)

    • Software Interface Design Documents (SIDD)

  • Manage technical specifications, drawings, and instructions to support manufacturing and site installation.

  • Prepare documentation for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

  • Review subcontractor and internal drawings to ensure alignment with project requirements.

  • Produce supporting technical documentation including design basis reports, substantiation reports, and calculations.

  • Contribute to tender evaluations, providing both technical and commercial input.


Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Active SC clearance

  • Proven experience preparing Design Acceptance Reports (DARs)

  • Degree, HNC, or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline

  • Broad engineering background covering both design and manufacturing

  • Proficient in the design of low-voltage control gear and control systems

  • Strong understanding of EC&I engineering principles and standards

Desirable:

  • Membership in a recognised professional engineering body

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and drafting standards

  • Familiarity with HAZOP/HAZID processes

  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Level 2 Health & Safety certification
