About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Design Manager to lead the development and coordination of technical design packages for projects within the UK defence and nuclear sectors. This role is integral to ensuring that engineering deliverables meet their required scope, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
You will play a key part in managing the design lifecycle of high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical systems in safety-critical environments, ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards and industry practices.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and oversee the production of electrical design deliverables in line with project specifications and requirements.

Develop and apply design strategies that comply with safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including Building Information Modelling (BIM) protocols.

Produce and maintain substantiation documentation for electrical infrastructure.

Provide technical justification for modifications and updates to electrical systems within high-hazard environments.

Review and validate calculations, technical reports, and other engineering outputs produced by the design team.

Ensure full compliance of electrical designs with applicable standards and system requirements for HV and MV systems.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
-
Degree or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering or a related discipline.

Chartered Engineer status (CEng) and registration with the Engineering Council.

Significant experience in the design and engineering of HV and MV electrical systems.

Strong working knowledge of BIM environments and design integration practices.

Experience in project planning, cost control, and design team management.

Familiarity with the design and assessment of safety-critical structures, systems, and components within nuclear or defence settings.

Understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment processes, including HAZID and HAZOP methodologies.
Desirable:

Experience supporting the design and development of nuclear facilities, including construction, operation, maintenance, or repair phases.
Additional Information

This is a hybrid role based primarily in Glasgow city centre, with occasional travel required to project sites in the South East.
