We are seeking an experienced Principal HV/MV Electrical Engineer to join an established Electrical Design Team delivering critical infrastructure projects across the Defence sector. This is a key position that offers the opportunity to lead the design, assessment, and optimisation of high- and medium-voltage electrical systems within safety-critical environments.
This role combines technical leadership with strategic input, and will suit a candidate who thrives in high-hazard sectors where safety, precision, and reliability are paramount.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership

Lead the development, specification, and assessment of HV/MV electrical design packages.

Deliver expert guidance and innovative solutions to support project goals and system integrity.
Reliability & Performance

Define operational constraints and ensure optimal performance of electrical infrastructure.

Lead fault analysis, condition assessment, and system improvement initiatives.
Design Assessment & Risk Management

Evaluate the condition and compliance of existing HV/MV systems, considering ageing, design standards, and risk mitigation.

Recommend enhancements to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory alignment.
Safety & Compliance
-
Ensure adherence to safety protocols and promote a proactive safety-first approach across all project phases.

Work within the parameters of UK security and industry-specific safety regulations.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
-
Extensive experience in HV/MV and LV electrical system design, including protection, control, and instrumentation systems.

Strong understanding of British and international design standards.

Proven delivery of infrastructure projects in complex, regulated, or high-hazard environments.

Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess operational constraints, system reliability, and asset condition.

Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality outputs safely, on schedule, and to specification.
Desirable:

Experience in the nuclear or defence industries.

Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent professional recognition.
Qualifications & Training
Essential:

HNC or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering.
Desirable:

Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline.
Additional Information

This position requires eligibility for SC clearance in line with UK National Security Vetting criteria.
