Senior Engineer – Civil & Structural (Civil bias)
Location: Warrington, Cheshire
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Working Arrangement: Fully site-based
Sector: Nuclear / Major Infrastructure
The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to work with our client on a project in Warrington.
This is a permanent, full-time, site-based opportunity supporting the delivery of civil engineering infrastructure within the nuclear industry.
The successful candidate will deliver civil engineering design and assessment for roads, highways, access routes, pavements and associated infrastructure, working within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment.
Due to the nature of the project, candidates will need to be eligible to obtain the appropriate UK security clearance.
We are ideally looking for candidates with experience in the nuclear industry or another highly regulated/safety-critical sector, although transferable experience from major infrastructure, energy or other regulated industries will also be considered.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering civil engineering design and assessment for roads, highways, access routes, pavements and associated infrastructure.
- Producing and reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports and design documentation.
- Supporting design substantiation and technical justifications to meet project, regulatory and governance requirements.
- Collaborating with structural, geotechnical, drainage, environmental, transportation and wider multidisciplinary teams.
- Participating in design reviews, technical assurance activities and resolving engineering queries.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant codes, standards, quality requirements and CDM 2015 obligations.
- Supporting continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and mentoring junior engineers.
About You
We are looking for a degree-qualified Civil Engineer, ideally working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or with equivalent professional experience.
You should have:
- Proven experience in the design and assessment of roads, highways, pavements and associated civil infrastructure.
- Understanding of design substantiation, technical reporting and engineering assurance.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and managing technical interfaces.
- Experience using relevant civil engineering, highway design and modelling software.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Knowledge or experience of American codes and standards would be advantageous but is not essential.
Nuclear & Security Clearance Requirements
This role supports a project within the nuclear industry, so previous experience within nuclear or another highly regulated/safety-critical environment is highly desirable.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain the required UK security clearance for the project and will be required to undergo the relevant security vetting process.
Previous experience of nuclear new-build projects would be particularly advantageous, although we welcome applications from engineers looking to move into the nuclear sector with transferable experience from other regulated or safety-critical industries.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a major UK nuclear infrastructure programme and contribute to the delivery of essential civil infrastructure as part of the Balance of Site team.
If you are a Civil Engineer with roads, highways or infrastructure experience and are interested in developing your career within the nuclear sector, we would be keen to hear from you.
