The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Structural Engineer to work with our client on the project in Warrington. This is a permanent, full-time, site-based opportunity supporting the delivery of complex structural and civil engineering solutions within the nuclear industry.
The successful candidate will coordinate and deliver structural engineering analysis, design and assessment across reinforced concrete, steel and civil infrastructure, working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment.
Due to the nature of the project, candidates will need to be eligible to obtain the appropriate UK security clearance. Candidates must be able to satisfy the relevant clearance requirements to work on the programme.
We are ideally looking for candidates with previous experience in the nuclear industry or another highly regulated/safety-critical sector, although we also welcome engineers with strong transferable experience from infrastructure, energy and other regulated industries.
The Role
As a Structural Engineer, you will support the team within the programme, coordinating and delivering structural engineering analysis, design and assessment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating and delivering structural engineering analysis, design and assessment for reinforced concrete, steel and civil infrastructure projects within the GBE-N programme.
- Producing and reviewing structural calculations, models, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
- Specifying and designing concrete mixes for reinforced concrete structures.
- Supporting the development of design substantiation and technical documentation to meet project, regulatory and governance requirements.
- Collaborating with civil, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, process, construction and safety teams to develop integrated engineering solutions.
- Undertaking structural assessments for normal, construction, environmental and extreme loading conditions, including seismic loading where required.
- Participating in design reviews, technical assurance activities and the resolution of engineering queries.
- Ensuring designs comply with applicable codes, standards, quality requirements and CDM 2015 obligations.
- Supporting the effective management of technical interfaces across the wider programme.
About You
We are looking for a degree-qualified Civil or Structural Engineer with relevant structural engineering design and assessment experience. Ideally, you will be working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
You should have:
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in the analysis and design of reinforced concrete, steel and civil engineering structures.
- Knowledge of relevant UK and international structural design codes and standards.
- Experience supporting engineering delivery within infrastructure, energy, nuclear or other regulated industries.
- Understanding of structural behaviour under complex loading conditions, including construction, environmental and accidental load cases.
- Experience or understanding of seismic loading and assessment would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with design substantiation, technical reporting and engineering assurance processes.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage technical interfaces.
- Experience using structural analysis software and wider engineering digital tools.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable Experience
It would also be advantageous if you have:
- Previous experience within the nuclear industry, particularly nuclear new-build projects.
- Experience working on major infrastructure, energy or other safety-critical projects.
- Experience of structural engineering within complex, highly regulated environments.
- Knowledge or experience of American codes and standards.
- Experience with seismic analysis and design.
- Experience specifying and designing concrete mixes for reinforced concrete structures.
- Familiarity with BIM and digital engineering workflows.
- Experience working within formal engineering assurance and technical governance processes.
Nuclear & Security Clearance Requirements
This role will be supporting the project within the nuclear industry, so previous experience within the nuclear sector or another highly regulated/safety-critical environment is highly desirable.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain the required UK security clearance for the project.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo the relevant security vetting and clearance process before undertaking certain project activities.
Previous experience of nuclear new-build projects would be particularly advantageous.
However, we also welcome applications from engineers considering a move into the nuclear sector, particularly those with transferable experience from other regulated or safety-critical industries.
