Are you an experienced Development Chemist looking to work on the development and scale-up of fine chemical processes?
We're recruiting for a Development Chemist to join an expanding chemical manufacturing business in Newmarket. This is an excellent opportunity to work at the interface of Research, Development, Quality Control and Production, helping to develop new products and optimise manufacturing processes from laboratory scale through to production.
The Role
Reporting to the Development Lead, you'll play a key role in developing and improving chemical processes, supporting production, and helping to bring new products from research into manufacturing.
This is a varied, hands-on laboratory role that would suit someone who enjoys problem-solving, process improvement and working closely with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of new and existing chemical manufacturing processes.
- Carry out laboratory-scale distillations and small-scale manufacture of fine chemicals.
- Assist with scaling up research projects into full production.
- Support Production, Quality Control and Research teams with technical troubleshooting.
- Operate development laboratory equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records using the company's ERP system.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, SOPs and work instructions.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with company quality systems and safety procedures.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Development, Production, Research and Quality.
About You
We're looking for someone with a strong chemistry background who enjoys practical laboratory work and developing manufacturing processes.
You'll ideally have:
- A degree in Chemistry, preferably Organic Chemistry, or equivalent industrial experience.
- A minimum of 2 years practical work experience within chemical, fine chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Knowledge of distillation processes and small-scale chemical manufacture.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- An understanding of working safely with hazardous chemicals.
Experience with analytical techniques such as GC, HPLC, FTIR, Karl Fischer and titrations would be advantageous.
