The Opportunity
We're recruiting a Planning Engineer to join our clients team managing programme planning and scheduling on major nuclear infrastructure projects. You'll be responsible for preparing detailed programmes for design, construction and commissioning activities, managing schedules through feasibility, option selection and pre-construction phases, working across multiple concurrent projects and client sites.

This role is for an experienced planning engineer with nuclear industry background. You'll be central to programme delivery across multiple concurrent projects, collaborating with engineering teams, construction crews, client planning functions and subcontractors. You'll report to the Planning Manager and provide planning support, advice and coordination across all stakeholder groups.
What You'll Be Doing
Programme Planning & Scheduling
- Prepare overall programmes, updates and submissions in full compliance with contract requirements
- Develop resource-loaded programmes, schedules and supporting reports
- Review weekly look-ahead programmes from package managers
- Manage feasibility and option selection planning and programmes
- Conduct plausibility reviews of own and others' programmes
Schedule Management & Control
- Manage change control, assessment and implementation
- Schedule and communicate preliminary works and temporary works
- Build allowances into programmes for risk, HSQE, environmental and other constraints
- Collaborate with Planning Manager to ensure efficient resourcing across multiple projects
- Review daily records and highlight construction progress concerns, scope changes and delay impacts
Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with designers, contractors and stakeholders on programme delivery
- Attend weekly planning, progress and coordination meetings
- Participate in risk reduction meetings and progress reporting
- Provide planning advice and direct support to sector leaders, clients and contractors
- Contribute to task and project quotation preparation
Technical Planning
- Prepare visual material supporting planned methods and programme delivery
- Undertake programme risk analysis
- Contribute to 4D time sequence planning using Syncro or similar applications
- Evaluate cost, time and HSEQ impacts of changes and delays
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure all client and company planning processes and procedures are implemented
- Maintain minimum standards of safety, quality and environmental compliance
- Challenge and change poor practice in safety, quality and planning procedures
- Support continuous improvement and learning from experience
About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in civil engineering or infrastructure engineering discipline -or equivalent professional qualification
- Minimum 3 years' experience preparing project programmes for Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractors
- MUST HAVE: Nuclear industry experience -demonstrated background on nuclear or similar regulated infrastructure projects
- Competent in planning software - experienced using industry-standard scheduling applications (Microsoft Project, Primavera or similar)
- Strong understanding of:
- Construction methods and delivery sequences
- Conditions of contract and contractual planning clauses
- Commercial and contractual interfaces with planning function
- Client planning and project control policies and procedures
- Stakeholder and approval authority procedures
- Microsoft Office proficiency -particularly Excel and Project
- Ability to prepare own schedules -quantities, outputs, rates and durations
- Safety and HSQE focused -work with safety and environmental compliance at the forefront
- Strong communication skills -confident engaging with engineering teams, contractors, clients and stakeholders
- Collaborative approach -comfortable working across multi-disciplinary teams and driving programme coordination
Desirable
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
- Current SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or NEBOSH qualification
- Certified training in planning software -formal qualifications in Primavera, Microsoft Project or similar
- Experience with PowerBI and other reporting applications
- Experience on large, complex infrastructure or nuclear projects
- Familiarity with gated project processes and client project control platforms
- 4D planning experience using Syncro or similar applications
Security Clearance
You must be able to obtain SC (Security Clearance) to work on this nuclear facility project. BPSS is the minimum starting point.
The Role in Practice
You'll be based in Workington, working a full-time office-based role, with the possibility of 1 day remote working after probation. You'll work directly with the Planning Manager, collaborating across engineering, construction and client functions.
This is hands-on programme management work on a strategically important nuclear project. You'll be producing schedules, managing risks, coordinating across multiple stakeholders, and driving programme delivery. Your planning expertise and ability to collaborate effectively with teams, contractors and clients directly impacts project success.
