Job Title: Quality Inspector – Mechanical Engineering
Location: Near Preston

Our client, a highly respected engineering business operating in a regulated industry, is currently seeking a skilled Quality Inspector with a strong background in mechanical engineering or precision machining. Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out dimensional inspections on fabricated and manufactured parts, ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and relevant industry standards. This role plays a key part in maintaining product quality across all stages of the production process.


Key Responsibilities

  • Use digital and manual measuring equipment (e.g. micrometers, verniers, CMM) to perform final and in-process inspections.

  • Assess components and materials to ensure they meet required tolerances and drawing specifications.

  • Document inspection results accurately and maintain inspection records.

  • Review engineering drawings, route cards, and inspection procedures to determine compliance criteria.

  • Support process audits and assist with the development and maintenance of inspection-related documentation.

  • Inspect and verify materials, supporting the certification and traceability process.

  • Maintain calibration records for measuring equipment.

  • Contribute to the preparation and review of Lifetime Quality Records (LTQRs).

  • Liaise with client inspectors as required.


Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to the Quality Control Manager.


Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Time-served mechanical engineer or machinist

  • Strong understanding of trigonometry and mechanical measurement principles

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings

  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring tools

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001

  • Computer literate and capable of maintaining digital records

Desirable Experience

  • Exposure to CAD software and/or reverse engineering

  • Knowledge of British Standards

  • Previous experience in a highly regulated environment (e.g. nuclear, aerospace)

Attributes & Other Requirements

  • High attention to detail and excellent organisational skills

  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Flexible approach to tasks and working hours

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Willingness to undergo (or current holder of) baseline security clearance
