A leading FMCG food business in the North West is currently recruiting for a Development Chef / Innovative Applications Technologist to join their team. The Development Chef / Development technologist will support the Head of NPD in producing finished products to showcase to customers and be responsible for influencing the commercial team to use this passion and innovation as a sell to the customer base.

Food Manufacturing experience is essential for this role.

Development Chef / Applications Technologist responsibilities include:

Responsible for product innovation and development in line with customer specifications whilst having a blue sky approach to development opportunities.
Develop products from concept to approval in line with customer briefs.
Complete Chef recipe sheets for new products.
Organise and conduct concept panels for all new products before presenting to the customer.
Preparing samples for customer of the highest standard.
Improve existing ranges.
Work with other departments to ensure that products are feasible and able to launch in line with critical paths
Ensure trials / projects run within the agreed critical path
Follow NPD procedures ensuring all correct and appropriate documentation is completed taking products through from concept to launch
Maintain project files ensuring the business is audit ready at all times
Calculate costing to agreed margins and targets and ensure all costings are updated at each stage of development
Create nutritionals for all new concepts where required
Attend pre and post‐trial meetings for all NPD and EPD projects
Complete tests for all dishes
Assist the Technical team with artwork sign off
Source new raw materials to agreed parameters and agree specification with technical and procurement
Lead benchmarking sessions and create benchmark reports for new categories
Organise consumer testing samples and paperwork
Complete change of Raw Material documentation for changes to recipes or ingredients ensuring these are approved in accordance with company procedures
Create handover documents to transfer new food concepts to the process team and actively support the trial / launch process
Attend launch meetings
Actively investigate to find solutions for any production issues including material variance and quality issues
Present ideas clearly, accurately and persuasively to achieve creative development throughout the site.
Attend taste panel and meetings when necessary

You will ideally be degree qualified / equivalent in a Food science subject and have experience working within a Development Chef or Technologist / Applications Technologist position. You will have proven skills in creating finished products to showcase to customers.
