Job Title: Mechanical Technician
Responsible for carrying out maintenance activities on-site, this could consist of reactive and planned maintenance. All work to be conducted in a professional, efficient, safe manner in-line with company policies and procedures.
An exciting and new opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Technician at our OFD (Oil Fuel Depot) located in Gosport, Hampshire.
Working as part of a team, this role undertakes the receipt/storage and issue of POL (Petroleum, Oil Liquids) Bulk products for HM Navy and other company customers. Always working within Competent Authority standards and regulations, with a strong focus on ensuring no harm to people or the environment. Understanding of a COMAH regulated site would be an advantage but not essential.
Working outside will be a daily requirement, as will manual handling and some occasional work within a confined space. There will be a requirement to regularly work at other sites therefore a full (preferably clean) driving licence is essential for the successful candidate.
This role requires candidates to show they are a motivated team player, be willing to be part of a rostered “on-call” team and to undertake short notice overtime. You will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the foundations of health and safety, have a good safety conscious record, along with high standards of honesty and confidentiality.
- Maintenance of fixed/mobile plant.
- Assisting in the fuelling of vessels (including the manual handling of fuel hoses and operating manual valves).
- Maintenance of storage tanks and oil water separators.
- Oil Spill response.
- Operate a computerised maintenance system.
- Site maintenance.
- AP Duties (Control of Works/Permit to Work).
Candidates will be qualified Mechanical Technicians, either through time served apprenticeships, NVQ or other recognised routes, or be qualified in a relevant Engineering Craft / Technician discipline and have completed a Modern-Day Craft Apprenticeship, or be assessed as competent with relevant experience.
Ideally you will have a working knowledge of rotating and static plant, including, tanks, pumps, valves and pipework. You can also expect to occasionally be carrying out some working in confined spaces, therefore you need to be medically fit to use Breathing Apparatus.
You will need to have a natural ability to work collaboratively with other team members and others with whom you may have dealings in a professional manner.
As there will be a requirement to regularly work at other sites, a full (preferably clean) driving licence is essential for the post holder.
