Job Title: CNC Miller
Reports To: Machine Shop Manager
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £33k - £35k


The individual will produce large, bespoke, high integrity components for applications in the power generation and rolling and offshore oil and gas industries in a heavy engineering environment.

Job Dimensions:

The job will consist of operating a 5 axis CNC machine with Siemens 840D controls and/or a Heidenhain with similar 840D controls. The job will also incorporate operating a 3-5 axis milling centre and will undertake all milling and turning operation, inspecting the parts produced and to assist in the loading and off-loading of parts to the machine whilst taking a lead in the promotion of H&S. Recognised and worked sectors will include Defence & Marine, Civil Nuclear, Offshore, Steel Processing, Renewables, Power Generation, High Pressure Reactors and Steel Plant/Ingot & Bar partition work.


The client are a highly experienced, single site entity who have been in operation for over 200 years that are capable of producing the largest and most technically challenging cast and forged steel components in the world. The company create large, bespoke, high integrity components for several applications including the power generation and offshore oil and gas industries in a heavy engineering environment. Specific qualifications required for the role:



3-4 year Apprentice training as a machinist/turner



Crane Driving Licence



Skills, attributes & knowledge required:



Experience of 5 axis machining



Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings



Knowledge of modern tooling



Knowledge of setting and programming



A full understanding of health and safety and the ability to work safely



Type of experience required:



Previous experience of operating a 5 axis CNC milling machine



Engineering environment x Experience Crane driving and slinging



Previous experience of machining large castings and forgings



Experience of 6S



Previous experience setting and programming



Experience of Continuous Improvement methods of working





- £33k - 35K + per annum (dependant on skills)
- You will be paid weekly on an hourly rate plus 15% shift allowance

Days/Hours of Work:
- Average 37.5 Hours per week
- 3 shift system upon completion of training (Approx. 12 weeks)

Shifts consist of: 

Mornings: Monday - Friday - 06.00am - 13.20pm (14.50pm finish on a Wednesday)
Afternoons: Monday - Friday - 13.00pm - 20.20pm (22.00pm finish on a Friday)
Nights: Monday to Thursday only - 20.00pm - 06.20am NO FRIDAY NIGHT SHIFT
