The Opportunity
We're recruiting an Electrical Engineer to support test verification and regulatory compliance on water infrastructure projects. You'll review electrical test sheets from site, verify compliance against UK water industry standards and regulations (including DSEAR requirements), and ensure all testing documentation meets regulatory requirements for electrical systems in potentially explosive atmospheres.

This is hands-on technical compliance work focused on DSEAR and electrical safety. You'll be the technical authority verifying test data, ensuring compliance with dangerous substances and explosive atmosphere regulations, and supporting site teams with technical queries on electrical systems in potentially explosive environments. Your expertise in water sector electrical systems, DSEAR compliance, and regulatory requirements directly impacts project compliance and site sign-off.
What You'll Be Doing
Test Sheet Review & Verification
- Review electrical test sheets and commissioning data from site
- Check all test results against UK water industry standards, DSEAR and ATEX regulations
- Verify electrical systems in potentially explosive atmospheres meet DSEAR compliance requirements
- Verify test documentation is complete, accurate, and properly recorded with DSEAR assessments
- Identify any non-conformances or DSEAR-related issues requiring re-testing
- Support resolution of technical queries on test procedures, DSEAR compliance, and regulatory requirements
Regulatory Compliance & DSEAR Assessment
- Ensure all electrical testing meets water sector regulatory standards and DSEAR requirements
- Verify compliance with DSEAR regulations for electrical systems in potentially explosive atmospheres
- Verify compliance with ATEX and relevant codes of practice and legislation
- Support regulatory sign-off and project close-out documentation including DSEAR assessments
- Maintain accurate DSEAR compliance records and audit trails
Site Support & DSEAR Guidance
- Provide technical advice to site teams on electrical testing, DSEAR compliance, and safety in potentially explosive atmospheres
- Liaise with site engineers on testing procedures, DSEAR requirements, and regulatory compliance
- Support commissioning activities and site inspections with focus on DSEAR assessments
- Resolve technical issues with electrical systems in potentially explosive environments and testing procedures
About You
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Minimum 8+ years' electrical engineering experience in water sector or utilities
- MUST HAVE: Demonstrated water industry experience -proven background in water treatment, wastewater, or water distribution electrical systems
- MUST HAVE: DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres) competency -proven knowledge of DSEAR regulations and ability to assess electrical systems in potentially explosive atmospheres common in water treatment facilities
- Expert-level knowledge of:
- DSEAR regulations and application to water treatment facilities
- Electrical systems in potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX compliance)
- Water industry electrical standards and regulations
- Testing procedures and commissioning protocols
- UK electrical codes and water sector compliance requirements
- Electrical systems in water treatment and distribution facilities
- Proven ability to:
- Review and verify complex test data
- Identify technical non-conformances
- Work independently and make technical judgments
- Communicate technical information clearly to site teams
- Attention to detail - accuracy essential in test verification and compliance work
- Professional qualifications such as CEng or IEng status (Desirable)

The Role in Practice
You'll be based in Manchester with a hybrid working model, reviewing test sheets and documentation from active water sector projects. You'll work independently, reviewing electrical test data against regulatory requirements, identifying non-conformances, and providing technical support to site teams.
This is technical compliance work where accuracy and regulatory knowledge directly impact project delivery and site compliance. You're not designing or installing - you're verifying that what's been done meets standard and regulation.
