Permit Coordinator/Officer
Nuclear Engineering / Manufacturing
Fixed Term Contract – 12 Months

We are supporting a leading Nuclear Engineering and Manufacturing company in the appointment of an experienced Permit Officer on a 12-month fixed term contract.

This role is critical to the safe control and coordination of work activities within a high-hazard, highly regulated nuclear engineering facility. Acting on behalf of the Facility, the Permit Officer ensures all work is released, managed, and executed in accordance with approved Safe Systems of Work, isolation procedures, and authorised schedules.

The Role

As Permit Officer, you will have authority for the release, coordination, and suspension of work within a designated facility area, ensuring safe system configuration at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Authorising the start, continuation, interruption, or suspension of scheduled work activities
  • Acting on behalf of the Facility in controlling all work within your designated area
  • Coordinating multiple work activities to ensure compatibility with facility conditions and other planned works
  • Releasing work in line with the authorised schedule and approved change control processes
  • Providing input into integrated planning activities
  • Participating in stakeholder meetings as the Facility representative
  • Conducting routine facility tours to verify work is performed safely and in accordance with approved procedures
  • Acting as the central point of contact for personnel entering the controlled area, ensuring correct authorisation under site rules
  • Verifying SSOW documentation and ensuring records are archived in line with company procedures
  • Providing independent verification of electrical and mechanical isolations under the ITC process
  • Reviewing work packs to confirm appropriate safety controls are in place
  • Participating in risk assessment activities
  • Maintaining accurate awareness of work status and providing effective handovers
  • Exercising stop-work authority where activities are deemed unsafe

Essential Experience & Knowledge

  • Previous experience in a Permit Officer or Safe System of Work Controller role
  • Strong, demonstrable understanding of electrical and mechanical isolation processes
  • Experience working in nuclear, energy, heavy engineering, or other high-hazard regulated environments
  • Confident engaging with multiple stakeholders and enforcing safety standard
