Contract - Outside of scope of IR35

Location: Manchester
Hybrid: 2 - 3 days per week in office
Duration: 6 months+

We’re mobilising a short-term FEED project within the hydrogen energy sector and are seeking an experienced Lead/Principal Electrical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team delivering innovative process plant design.

This client-facing role requires deep technical expertise in electrical engineering for large-scale process facilities, and the ability to lead the discipline across design phases with autonomy and precision.

The Role

  • Provide technical leadership for electrical engineering activities on a high-profile hydrogen FEED project

  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering deliverables, including technical specifications, calculations, and drawings

  • Develop equipment and material requisitions for HV/LV switchgear, UPS, VFDs, motors, transformers, lighting, earthing, and more

  • Prepare installation scopes of work and oversee supplier engagement, including technical bid evaluations

  • Allocate tasks within the team and ensure timely, quality-assured delivery aligned with project schedules and client expectations

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable UK and international standards, codes, and safety legislation

Technical Expertise Required

  • HV (33kV and below) system design and protection schemes

  • Protection system design including schematics, grading studies, and setting calculations

  • Power system analysis: fault level calculations, load flow studies, earthing system design

  • Detailed electrical design for complex industrial facilities

  • Specifying and assessing electrical equipment for use in hazardous areas

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering; apprenticeships considered

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or actively working toward this) with a relevant professional body

  • Extensive experience in process plant electrical design, ideally in hydrogen, oil & gas, or industrial sectors

  • Strong understanding of UK legislation, electrical standards, and hazardous area classification

  • Confidence in a client-facing role, with strong communication and leadership skills

This is a key opportunity to take ownership of electrical discipline delivery on a landmark hydrogen infrastructure project. If you're technically confident and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative design environment, we’d like to hear from you.
