We’re supporting the delivery of major water infrastructure programmes and are looking for a Principal Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (EICA) Engineer to join a high-performing design team based in Manchester.

This role involves leading or supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary design across water sector frameworks, with a focus on electrical and control solutions that are practical, efficient, and compliant.

The Role

  • Lead the production of electrical, instrumentation, and control design documentation in accordance with project specifications and budgets

  • Develop outline and detailed EICA designs for both new and existing water infrastructure

  • Prepare and review specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, and technical bid evaluations

  • Conduct site surveys, support installation planning, and attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at supplier facilities

  • Ensure subcontractor designs meet technical and quality standards

  • Produce installation scopes of work and support commissioning where required

  • Allocate work within the EICA discipline and ensure delivery aligns with project schedules and expectations

  • Ensure compliance with UK legislation, WIMES, ATEX, CE marking, and relevant directives (LVD, PED, EMC, Machinery)

  • Contribute to HV design and provide support during site construction and commissioning activities

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering; apprenticeship routes considered

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards) with a relevant professional body

  • 15+ years of engineering experience, ideally in the water sector or similar regulated environments

  • In-depth knowledge of UK design standards, WIMES, and installation requirements

  • Understanding of hazardous area design, CE marking regulations, and industry directives

  • Strong communication and coordination skills across disciplines, clients, and supply chain

  • Experience delivering practical, buildable solutions with a focus on safety and long-term asset performance

This is a key role offering the opportunity to lead critical infrastructure design within the UK water sector. If you’re a technically strong and delivery-focused Principal EICA Engineer looking to shape impactful projects, we’d like to hear from you.
