A growing independent consultancy is looking for a Senior Planner to support their major client programmes across their Infrastructure, Defence, Nuclear, Energy (including renewables), Rail, Highways, Aviation, Utilities (Water, Power), Government and Public Sector, Critical National Infrastructure portfolio. This is a delivery-facing role, embedded within the client’s project team. You’ll work closely with planners, cost managers, risk leads and PMO professionals to make sure the schedule reflects reality and supports decision-making.
You’ll be hands-on with the programme, not sitting on the sidelines. The team relies on planning to drive delivery, so your work will be visible and valued. The environment is fast-paced and collaborative, so this would suit someone who’s comfortable working with delivery teams, engaging with stakeholders, and translating complexity into clear, workable plans.
Key responsibilities
• Build and manage integrated schedules for live infrastructure projects
• Run progress updates, logic reviews and critical path analysis
• Support change control and assess time impacts
• Report on schedule performance, risks and opportunities
• Engage with project teams to ensure plans stay accurate and useful
What they’re looking for
• Experience in planning roles on infrastructure or engineering programmes
• Strong Primavera P6 skills and confidence using Excel
• Ability to work across teams and communicate clearly
• Understanding of how planning supports delivery, not just reporting
• Proactive and practical mindset, able to take ownership
Why this role
You’ll join a team that values long-term thinking and delivery quality. The programme is complex and high-profile, and there’s room to influence how planning is done. It’s a good fit if you want to be trusted with your work and be part of something that’s well run, but not over-managed.
You’ll be joining a team that takes delivery seriously but leaves room for flexibility and trust. This is a role where your input will shape how planning is done, not just how it’s reported. The programme is high-profile with the kind of complexity that keeps things interesting. In return, you’ll have a competitive package, including private healthcare, pension contributions, and regular salary reviews. You’ll also get support with training, professional development and chartership if that’s on your radar. The hybrid setup is genuinely flexible, and the team culture is focused on collaboration, not micromanagement.
