Lead Civil & Structural Engineer – Petrochemical Projects

We are recruiting for a Lead Civil & Structural Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team based in Aberdeen. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of design delivery within a major brownfield modification programme in the petrochemical sector, overseeing a team of engineers and designers while acting as the key interface with both clients and senior leadership.
Role Overview
As Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the successful delivery of civil and structural engineering services across a pipeline of brownfield site modifications. This includes coordinating design work, ensuring quality and compliance, and delivering against programme and budget targets.
Key Responsibilities

Serve as the main civil/structural engineering representative to the client and senior stakeholders

Lead and coordinate engineering teams to deliver multi-disciplinary work packages

Challenge and deliver value-engineered solutions across projects

Review and check technical deliverables including calculations, drawings, and specifications

Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and industry standards throughout the design lifecycle

Produce technical reports, design documents, and engineering specifications

Deliver presentations and communicate designs to internal teams and client representatives

Support the training, development, and mentoring of junior team members

Promote safety-by-design principles and assess potential risks, including temporary works
Requirements

BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering (minimum requirement)

Chartered status with ICE or IStructE (essential)

Extensive experience delivering structural engineering projects in the petrochemical or energy sectors

Strong knowledge of sector-specific specifications and engineering norms

Proficiency in the design of foundations, steel/concrete structures, pipe supports, racks/tracks, rotating equipment bases, and drainage systems

Offshore experience is beneficial but not essential

Proven leadership or team management experience

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

A flexible and innovative mindset with a safety-first approach

Full UK driving licence (essential)
Working Arrangements
This role is based in Aberdeen, with a hybrid working model requiring 3 days per week in the office. Occasional travel to other offices or project sites may be required.
