Overview:

We’re recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering organisation for a Project Controls Engineer to play a key role in delivering high-value engineering projects. You will be responsible for the planning, cost control, risk analysis, and reporting across a portfolio of complex projects within highly regulated sectors such as nuclear or defence.

This role is ideal for an experienced Project Controls professional who thrives in a collaborative environment, has strong Primavera P6 knowledge, and can confidently support project delivery from tender through to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, monitor and control project schedules and budgets using Primavera P6
  • Establish and maintain Work Breakdown and Cost Breakdown Structures
  • Produce, update, and manage cost/resource-loaded schedules and baselines
  • Perform change control, trend analysis, risk integration, and scenario planning
  • Engage with internal teams, clients, and supply chain to ensure alignment and accuracy
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting: project status, earned value, progress metrics
  • Support Project Managers with forecasting, performance reviews, and recovery options
  • Lead or contribute to planning meetings, internal reviews, and client interfaces
  • Mentor and guide junior planning support where applicable
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, project governance, and industry standards

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a project controls or planning role- Essential
  • Strong proficiency in Primavera P6 and understanding of project planning fundamentals- Essential
  • Background in engineering, manufacturing, nuclear, or defence environments- Essential
  • Familiarity with NEC3/4 contracts and associated programme requirements- Essential
  • Ability to interpret and present earned value analysis, forecasts, and cost/resource data- Essential
  • Comfortable managing multiple stakeholders and interrogating data effectively- Essential
  • Familiarity with DCMA 14-point schedule assessments- Desirable
  • Professional training or certification (e.g. PRINCE2, ACostE, APM) - Desirable
  • Experience in integrated schedule, cost, and resource analysis across project portfolios- Desirable
  • Previous use of systems such as CEMAR, DCC, Business Central, Reveal, Power BI- Desirable
