Principal Civil Structural Engineer - Hybrid- Contract- Outside of  Scope of IR35


Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Civil Structural Engineer to join one of the UK's leading construction and engineering solutions company on a long term contract basis.

As a Principal Civil Structural Engineer, you will play a key role in leading and managing the civil and structural engineering team within our organisation. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and execution of civil and structural engineering projects from conception to completion. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and functionality of various infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of civil and structural engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise.
  • Develop and implement innovative design solutions for civil and structural engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct site inspections, feasibility studies, and structural assessments to identify project requirements and constraints.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with contractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate project requirements and resolve design challenges.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources effectively to ensure project milestones are met within scope and budget.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in civil and structural engineering, integrating new methodologies and technologies into project designs.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams, addressing engineering-related queries and issues in a timely manner.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to minimize project risks and ensure the safety of personnel and assets.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team, responsible for the delivery of civil and structural advice, analysis, calculations, reports, and specifications.
  • Take responsibility for leading small projects and subtasks from a technical perspective.
  • Communicate designs effectively to the BIM teams, other disciplines, construction personnel, and stakeholders.
  • Occasionally travel for site visits, design reviews, and client meetings, all within the Northwest region.
  • Mentor and provide support to junior team members.
  • Innovate and implement cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Demonstrate confidence and professionalism when engaging with clients.

Experience:

  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in Civil and structural design, with at least 10 years within the nuclear industry at all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Experience with new and historic structures, assessments, defining scopes of work, supporting estimates, and business development.
  • Experience with Seismic Design preferred.
  • CSCS card, Minimum BEng Civil or Structural Engineering plus Chartership with ICE or IStructE
