Our client who are one of the UK’s leading suppliers to the nuclear industry are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the highly-skilled established workforce that are delivering the highest standards of safety, quality, security and environmental protection for our customers.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer must have recent experience of producing mechanical designs using Inventor. In addition experience within a Vault environment is useful. HNC Minimum (Preferably Degree Qualified) and must have nuclear experience.

Our client is ideally looking for a candidate that has recent experience of producing mechanical design deliverables for Mechanical Handling Equipment, Special Purpose Machinery, and Lifting Equipment. Experience with Alpha standards / Glove Box design, Laser cutting/welding and depressurisation vessels will be beneficial.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for providing design solutions for the nuclear industry and coordinate the production of:

  • Design Schemes
  • Design Proposal Drawings
  • Detail Drawings
  • General Assemblies
  • Functional Specifications/ Functional Requirements Documents
  • Technical Reports and Studies
  • Design Justification Reports

The successful Senior Mechanical Engineer must be able to manage several teams of Designers and Engineers and undertake checking of Mechanical deliverables. The Mechanical Engineer must also have working knowledge and experience in applying relevant EH&S issues as required by legislation (and applicable Directives).

The Senior Mechanical Engineer must have the following experience:

  • Presenting at Designers Risk Assessments / Design Reviews and ideally at HAZOP studies.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication techniques.
  • Working knowledge of achievable manufacturing accuracy,
  • Working knowledge of Geometric tolerancing, weld symbols, limits and fits, surface finish.
  • Working knowledge of commonly used materials and standards.
