STREET LIGHTING ENGINEERS - (Chorley, Birmingham, London and Cardiff)

Assistant - Engineer level
These positions could be based in one of the following locations, depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidates: London, Birmingham, Chorley or Cardiff.

You will be responsible to provide support to clients and lead the development of road lighting design projects on time, within budget and to the agreed standards.

ROLE SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Analysis/Problem Solving

 Identify how information can be utilised to achieve specific project aims and how it will be applied
throughout the engineering process.
 Work with the project teams and clients to ensure assigned problems or issues are defined well
enough and that the requirement (brief) is fully understood.
 Identify and take account of relevant technical and engineering standards at all project stages.
 Resolve assigned problems or issues to support the delivery of projects or design objectives.
Take responsibility for engineering and technical tasks, identifying where unfamiliar techniques
and methodologies will be used to resolve issues.
 Provide advice and guidance to junior engineers and other members of the project team on
matters within own specialism.
 Keep the Project Manager informed of approach obtaining approval and guidance where
necessary.
 Provide solutions to problems/project objectives by drawing on previous experience and refining
approaches based on lessons learned utilise known techniques, such as (but not excluded to):
o value engineering
o studying and reviewing technical specifications or standards
o calculations
Delivery
 Carry out assigned tasks and duties as part of project team, to achieve time and cost targets set
by Project Managers and to relevant standards. Lead the delivery of discrete tasks as required.
Typical work areas to lead would be:
o Feasibility Studies
o Budgetary costings and support for business case development
o Design assessments and reviews
o Adherence to technical standards where applicable
o Development of new design standards and guidance
 Depending on the importance, complexity and risk lead technical project teams, work within
teams and/or independently to achieve defined goals. Seek feedback on personal performance
and effectiveness and act upon that feedback to improve future performance.
 Under supervision and guidance, support the business development and planning process by
contributing to initiatives as requested (including contributing to bids or presentations).
Quality
 Consistently deliver all outputs as defined within QM procedures and the project brief which
should be agreed with the Project Manager. As a minimum, this should include document (such
as reports, standards, specifications, drawings) quality, including formatting, style and content,
checking and review within the defined time constraints.
 Consider the impact of and the requirements for Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality
Management considerations within areas of responsibility.
Communication
 Consistently deliver clear, concise and timely communications, ensuring parties have a shared
understanding by confirming, clarifying and recording matters in relation to scope and timing of
deliverables
 Represent the company in a professional manner in order to deliver appropriate levels of
customer care, build client relationships and internal networks.
 For the benefit of project delivery develop relationships by being open, honest and accountable
with colleagues, clients, other parties, across teams and other parts of the company.
Leadership/Developing Others
 Provide professional/technical guidance and coaching to team members to ensure appropriate
skill/knowledge levels are achieved and improve the engineering service.
Personal Development
 Take ownership of personal development in order to maintain and build professional capabilities,
including identifying suitable training and development opportunities and working with a mentor
to establish a career development plan.

SKILLS

Qualifications  HNC/HND or Degree or equivalent in appropriate discipline
 IEng or Engtech (or working towards this status) through a relevant
institution

Knowledge /Experience
 Understanding of the engineering and technical discipline, typically
gained through training or experience.
 Specialist knowledge of the road lighting discipline, typically gained
through advanced training or qualifications and experience.
 Conceptual understanding of the road lighting sector
 Knowledge of company disciplines and services.
 An understanding of supporting factors such as health and safety, quality
management and environmental management systems
 An understanding of project management techniques and practices,
including contractual and commercial issues, typically gained through
experience.

Technical /Business Skills /Ability
 Good communication skills with fluent written and verbal English.
 Ability to work on own initiative on technical matters and mange their own
time and that of others.
 Desire to mentor, support and develop junior staff.
 Technical team management.
 Computing skills.
 Valid UK driving licence.
 Ability to work closely with internal and external Clients.
 Ability to project a positive company/ team image
