A long term contract opportunity has arisen with my Client for a Structural Engineer to support our Client's minor Works team.
May 2018 until the end of March 2019 with a possible option to extend by mutual agreement.
Skills and Experience
•Structural Engineers must have highly developed Structural Engineering design and project delivery skills and an understanding of how these attributes can be maximised in a multi-disciplinary working environment, with a successful track record of Structural Engineering expertise in the built environment.
•Experience in the analysis of client requirements/developing client briefs
•Knowledge and experience of Contract Administration, and use of change control procedures and documentation, negotiation and dispute resolution in construction industry environment.
•A minimum of 5 years post graduate experience.
•Ideally be a Chartered Engineer or have equivalent qualification.
•Consultants to have a current CSCS card
Summary of Duties
•School extension and refurbishment prepare scope of works for site investigations, ecology studies, topographical surveys etc. Interpret the results for foundation design. Design and detail the foundations, gf slab etc. Design and draw the superstructure in RC, steelwork or loadbearing brickwork. Attend site to provide on-going support to variations etc.
•Housing, new build and refurbishment projects All as above. Prepare scope of works for abseil surveys, concrete testing, borescope investigations, timber surveys etc. Interpret the results for remedial works including underpinning, concrete repairs, steel repairs, timber repairs. Design, detail and produce specifications for remedial works. Manage the remedial works on site dealing with all on-going variations.
•Remediation Prepare scope of works for site investigations, development of remediation strategies, environmental studies, topographical surveys etc. Manage the process of developing and obtaining planning approvals of remediation strategy for implementation on site. Manage remediation schemes.
•Provide estimates for demolition of any building. Design and draw demolition projects. Prepare outline method statements and obtain planning approval for demolition. Organise service disconnections. Arrange for an Asbestos Survey to be undertaken. Arrange for ecological surveys to be undertaken. Prepare risk logs, specification, PEPS etc. Act as Contract Administrator on demolition projects. Chair site meeting as required. Liaison with QS on revisions, additions as etc resulting in change orders.
•Major Capital projects appraise submissions of SI, drawings etc from D&B contractors and provide critiques. Attend site reviews.
•Miscellaneous buildings Able to deal with appraisal and control of structural repairs including listed building.
•Legal Appraisals Able to undertake surveys of defective properties on behalf of the City Solicitors and prepare a report for the court. Able to act as expert witness in court as required. Able to attend conference and advise barrister on behalf of MCC.
• Ensure that quality control, design and specification requirements are complied with at all times.
•Producing designs, drawings and specifications as required in accordance with all current codes of practice. Carry out risk assessments and all associated tasks required by CDM 2015 legislation. Designs and drawings should be undertaken utilising CAD facilities.
•Carry out Structural/defect analysis surveys on a wide variety of buildings to identify defects, establish their cause and provide recommendations, all in the form of a report with supporting design and drawings.
•Undertake Right to Buy Surveys provide a reports and recommendations.
•Project Manage the Design, the works on site and defects period as required for either stand-alone projects or as lead officer for a multi-disciplinary team. They must have the knowledge and experience to be able to analyse/challenge the design of others
•Co-ordinate all designs, drawings and programme tasks for each scheme.
•Attend site visits and meetings where required to do so.
The role will be inside IR35.
