Maintenance Fitter – Avonmouth

The Opportunity
With production continuing to grow, we’re looking for an additional Maintenance Fitter to join the team in Avonmouth. You’ll play a key role in keeping the site running smoothly by carrying out preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy plant equipment. This is a hands-on role working closely with the Shift Supervisor, production teams and contractors to ensure all maintenance activity is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
You’ll build a strong understanding of the plant, support ongoing improvements, and help ensure all maintenance systems comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out daily, weekly and monthly planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities in line with manuals and manufacturer instructions, ensuring accurate logging.

Maintain housekeeping standards in the workshop and manage consumables.

Take responsibility for spares, sourcing suppliers, and ensuring critical items are readily available to minimise downtime.

Provide hands-on guidance and training to support teams with preventative and reactive maintenance.

Diagnose faults and complete breakdown repairs to keep the plant running.

Contribute ideas and actions to reduce downtime and boost production performance.

Support the site during staff shortages and attend call-outs when required.

Carry out any other reasonable maintenance-related tasks.
Essential Skills & Experience

Minimum five years’ experience in a heavy industry maintenance environment (aggregates, concrete, mining, waste, or similar).

Strong ability to fault find and repair mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Preferably qualified to CGLI, NVQ, BTEC or HND level.

Experience with:
-
Conveyor systems (bearings, rollers, skirts)

Pan mixers (arms, tips, wear plates, gearbox repairs)
-
Hydraulics (packs, ram seals, valves, hoses)

Pneumatics (airlines, compressors, valves)
-

Basic welding and fabrication ability.

Ability to fault find and repair low-voltage electrical equipment.

Strong team player with the ability to train and motivate others.

Capable of reviewing, maintaining and improving PPM systems.

Self-motivated, organised, able to manage priorities and work independently.

Flexible approach and willing to be contacted out of hours.
Desirable Skills & Experience
-
Experience within aggregates, concrete, mining or waste sectors.

Additional fabrication and welding capability.
-
Basic industrial electrical knowledge.
-
IOSH or other recognised safety training.

Mobile plant operating certificates, ideally with the ability to train others.

Confident, diplomatic communicator
