The successful candidate will join their experienced team of testing operatives who travel around London and the UK surveying street lighting assets for local authorities and asset managers. The required average number of tests is 32 columns per day.
It is essential to have experience working in the street lighting sector, highways or other similar roles.
Successful candidates without NDT qualifications ( as this is not essential) will be upskilled and trained to use their testing equipment which tests the thickness of street columns to see if they need replacing.
You will work within a dynamic team, recording data into their specialist IOS and Android app.
Duties of the testing operative will include:
- Outdoor work all year round.
- Use of NDT equipment (full training to be provided).
- Mostly independent working.
- Data input back into our CRM app.
- Small scale traffic and public safety management whilst working in public areas.
- Willingness to travel around the UK in company vehicle so require a clean Full UK Driving License.
- Overnight stays with daily food allowance
Desirable skills of the testing operative may include:
- Previous experience of working within the street lighting industry
- Knowledge or understanding of BS EN40, CD354 and GN22.
- PNC Level 2 Certification in UT 3:1
- Strong knowledge of non-destructive testing methods.
- G39 qualification
Tools to aid the role:
- Funded training to develop key industry skills.
- Latest industry equipment for accurate results.
- Company vehicle (Branded Van) and fuel card.
- Performance based bonus scheme
Working Hours & Remuneration:
40 hours Monday-Friday.
Negotiable start times available
Potential for plenty of mid-week and weekend overtime especially in summer months
“The street lighting NDT operative vacancy comes with a trainee starting salary of £25,833.60 = to £13.42ph – increasing to 14.00ph = to £27,913.60 after 3 months. Dependant on experience, with successful and qualified candidates increasing to after 6 months £14.42ph= to £29,993.60 + an annual £500 Christmas bonus = £30,493.60”
For those with experience and relevant qualifications will benefit from a higher basic salary of up to £35,000 per year.
These are the minimum pay values. The max is uncapped and easily achievable for those who want it. The likelihood is that most will earn more than the pay bands above from the bonus scheme.
Overtime is paid at time and a half for anything above the standard 8 hrs Monday to Friday along with time and a half for Saturday working.
Double time is paid for Sunday’s and any night working.
Along with basic pay a bonus scheme will be available for all columns tested above the current average of 32 per day, each column tested above this will be paid at an additional £2 per test.
The bonus is paid and applicable once the target quantity has been achieved and upon completion on a full 8 hour shift.
All payments will be paid weekly by credit transfer to your bank account.
A typical days work will be from 8:00am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday with a 30‐minute lunch break, although this can be adjusted with authorisation from your line manager.
Your start time will begin from arrival at the test location, and finish time will occur at the point of leaving the last test location, travel time is not included.
You will be entitled to 25 days holiday per annum running January to December, in addition to statutory holidays. These are accrued on a pro‐rata basis.
You will also be entitled to a workplace pension scheme with a contribution rate of 3% from the company after a qualifying period of 3 months from your start date.”
