LEAD PROCESS ENGINEER           

(OUTSIDE IR35)

Our Client is a UK based Engineering and Project Management Company that specialise in a number of sectors including Oil and Gas, Rail, water, Highways.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Lead process engineer to join them on a contract basis to work on a natural gas compression detailed design project.

This is a key role within the business and the ideal candidate will lead a team of process engineers providing process engineering services for detailed design activities/deliverables on a brownfield project to install onshore gas compression at an existing natural gas reception terminal in the UK.

There is the potential to move onto a further detailed design project for installation of a new compression train at the oil processing terminal which is expected to be awarded with a November start date.

Responsible for delivering own work to quality, safety, budget and schedule targets. The role reports to the Project Engineering Manager for project delivery and the Process Discipline Manager as hiring manager and discipline technical authority.

The Process Engineering team work flexibly between the Manchester office and home. They normally work together in the office Tuesday to Thursday.

Experience:

The candidate should have:

- A degree in Chemical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer status preferred (MIChemE/FIChemE)
- A minimum of 15 years’ experience including significant knowledge and experience in the process development and design of natural gas reception facilities
- Previous experience in a Lead Process Engineer delivery role on major projects
- A background in an engineering consultancy or contracting design environment
- Significant experience in detailed design of UK onshore projects with a good understanding of the end to end process design and control for offshore to onshore gas field facilities incorporating field compression

Role dimensions:

A Principal Process Engineer will normally be the most senior engineer of the discipline on a particular project with full authority to act as the Lead Engineer for that discipline on a project. The role reports to the Discipline Lead - Process Engineering and the Project Engineering Manager.

Summary of Project Duties

To lead a team of process engineers and provide process engineering services for detailed design activities/deliverables on a brownfield project to install onshore gas compression at an existing natural gas reception terminal in the UK..
Responsible for delivering process team outputs to quality, safety, budget and schedule targets. The role reports to the Project Engineering Manager for project delivery and the Process Discipline Manager as hiring manager and discipline technical authority.
To perform own design work and check work by others in accordance with company procedures. To approve project deliverables when authorised by the Process Engineering Technical Authority.
To represent Process Engineering in discussions and meetings with client, vendors and third parties.
To develop discipline programme activities/deliverables and interdependencies, plan for adequate resources and to monitor and report design progress and man-hour usage to the project management team.
To work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary project delivery team, through proactive liaison with other disciplines and to ensure integration of Process Engineering design requirements into the overall engineering design.
To ensure personal compliance with current company policy, relevant legislation and company and client’s requirements for Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental matters and work in such a manner not to cause personal harm or injury to fellow workers, client and subcontractor employees or the environment.
The role requires part-time attendance at the Costain Manchester Office by mutual agreement and may require travel to company, supplier or client offices or sites.

Specific Competencies Required

• Delivering work under the UK Regulatory environment and to relevant industry codes, standards and guidelines for the Oil & Gas sector.
• Experience in the full project lifecycle including significant FEED/EPC experience.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in Gas Processing Technology and Compression preferably for natural gas reception; gas treatment and/or underground gas storage plants.
• Able to supervise and guide Process Simulation work (Aspen HYSYS preferred)
• Development of the Process Design Basis and Scope of Work
• Development of Heat and Material Balances, Process Flow Diagrams, Process Design Philosophies and P&ID’s
• Sizing and specification of Process requirements for Unit Operations, Major Equipment Utility Equipment; Equipment Packages; Piping and Instrumentation
• Hazard Study including HAZID and HAZOP
• SIL assessment using LOPA methodology
• Relief and Blowdown calculations
• Technical Risk Management
• Commercial Awareness
• Proactive, self-motivated and solutions biased
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Effective communicator
• Strong technical writing skills
• Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
