My first 12 months at Scantec – Recruiting Recruiters. It’s a two-way street

Somehow, I’ve been with Scantec for a year this month. Scary how fast time passes!

As Talent Acquisition Manager I’m responsible for Scantec’s internal vacancies – recruiting Recruiters, mainly. In the last 12 months we’ve welcomed some absolutely superb talent, even if I do say so myself!

For me, it’s been a roller coaster. At my first interview with the Managing Director I realised that I desperately wanted to work at Scantec. Then came the second interview and my presentation on ‘How I would set up and manage a talent acquisition function and develop a talent pool.’ I was a little nervous, but it made me want the opportunity even more. When I was offered the position I was thrilled, and I accepted without hesitation. Then crept in the self-doubt.

‘Can I do it?’

‘Sure, I can do agency recruitment, but can I do internal? Recruiting Recruiters, hmm, similar to Rec2Rec, a tough gig and something I said I’d never do!’

‘Would Recruiters want to speak with me?’

‘Would experienced Recruiters and top-notch talent be attracted to Scantec?’

Said the voice inside my head.

Within the first month I’d made my first placement and it soon became apparent that all those things I’d worried about weren’t the issue. Recruiters were calling me. I was being approached by impressive, experienced recruiters who’d been trained by large, multinationals, and all curious to understand more about Scantec. ‘Go on. You’re on. Centre stage. Tell them about Scantec!’ Said the voice. I soon realised that it’s really not a difficult business to attract talent to.

A 30 year old, privately owned business with an established brand, in a specialist market so Recruiters can achieve results and earn commission quickly.

A democratic culture so you can affect change and your voice will be heard, in a corporate and professional working environment.

A place where Recruiters stay for years; 20, 15, 10 years being common tenure among the management team, so you’ll have the utmost support and guidance throughout your career.

Real career progression, laid out in a competency framework, so you know exactly what you need to do to progress and be promoted, the pace of progression is determined by you.

So what are the challenges? What should that little voice in my head have been concerned about?

I’ve learned that here at Scantec, we don’t just hire people with recruitment experience and ‘give them a go.’ The recruitment process has been carefully designed to ensure we’re hiring the absolute best talent for our business, and it has to be right on both sides. We take the time to understand what makes potential employees tick, and to be completely transparent about who we are and what we’re about. Its two way street – are you right for us, are we right for you? Let’s take time, and go through the proper steps to find out. That’s the challenge. An exciting, roller coaster of a challenge – which is why I love it!
